You call it climate change or poor planning or failure of government, it doesnt matter. Chennai is reeling from one of the worst floods in 100 years. This natural deluge has affected every citizens of Chennai in a direct or indirect way. Lot of people's dream home and personal belongings are completely destroyed through this deluge. Once the rain water recedes, we will know the extent of the damage. However, when you see the photos and videos, as Chennaites, we know how bad the extent of damage is. Everything from infrastructure to people's housing needs help in re-building.  This crowd-funding is dedicated to all chennaites who are going through great pain due to this unforeseen natural calamity. Folks, time has come to stand-up for "Namma Chennai".  Lets donate  now and show how much we care for our loved ones and of course "Namma Chennai".

Who we are: This Crowd-Funded relief effort is intitated by non-resident Indians (NRIs) residing in United States of America and Canada who is collective intention are to help #chennairains relief effort.

Where all the money will be sent: Currently, we  have working with Lion's Club, Fort St. George. and we are also in midst of identifying local organization who might need. This fund will cater towards the funding the following items:

1. Food;
2. medicines;
3. Drinking water;
4. clothing;
5. shelter for people who have become homeless.

Hello Donors, we have completed our first micro-project under Namma chennai Campaign through Lion's club Fort St. George. we have got some photos, which we are sharing.

Hello Donors,

To provide clarity, this crowd-sourcing relief effort will aid the following micro-projects:

1. Immediate Relief through Lions Club, Fort St. George: We are working on this project to provide immediate relief. In fact, we have already sent 5k and distribution of following items has already been commenced for roughly 500 families:
1. Women's clothes - $2
2. Sanitary napkins - $1
3. Mosquito coils - 50 cents
4. Baby food - $1
5. Blankets - $3
6. Water packets (1 dozen) - 50 cents

2. Resettlement Project: Lot of People have lost their and belongings, so we are working closely with Bullockcart Workers Development Association (BWDA), a small NGO for immediate resettlement of 100 families. Again, for this micro-project we are sending another 3k this week.

The following is the re-settlement package (15 days):
1. Rice – 5 kg
2. Wheat flour – 1 kg
3. Sugar – 1 kg
4. Rice flakes- 1 kg
5. Tea powder – 50 gm
6. Salt – 1 kg
7. Tooth paste & Brush
8. Candle
9. Mosquito coil
10. Incense sticks
11. Bed sheet
12. Plastic mat
13. Match box
14. Basic Utensils (Aluminum)

Future Re-settlement Projects:
We are doing couple of more fund raisers in Edmonton and Calgary this weekend to raise some more funds. In addition, we have kept donation boxes in Edmonton in Lingsa restaurant, Savoy's kitchen and Masala wok.

In new year, our team will work on long term project which will focus on low-cost housing and providing safe drinking water for few communities.
