Lending a Helping Hand in Uganda

My first trip to Uganda took place in October 2006. I attended a conference called "Hope for Africa's Children". That trip completely changed my life! It made me realize how fortunate I am to live in a country like Canada, where we have so much. One of the problems that we face in a country like Canada is that most times, we tend to take what we have forgranted. This actually really started to bother me and so I started to ask myself what I could do to help make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate.
I began volunteering in Uganda two years after the conference. Since that time, I have been there 5 times and I am returning there again this summer. Over the years, I have formed some amazing relationships with some of the wonderful people of Uganda...to the point where many of them are like family to me.
While I am in Uganda this summer, I will be doing several things such as: visiting a school along the Uganda/Congo border, participating in several mobile medical clinics, visiting some single mothers as well as homeless disabled people.
While I'm in the Kampala area, I will primarily be working with a local NGO called RAFI - Uganda (www.rafi-ug.org). I will also be spending a little bit of time volunteering with an another local NGO called Dwelling Places (www.dwellingplaces.org). While in northern Uganda, I will be working with some of the local pastors who are working in partnership with Ramona's Reach (www.ramonasreach.com).
My goal is to raise $2,000 to fund the work that I plan on doing while I'm in Uganda this summer. This money will be used for the following items: medical supplies for the mobile medical clinics, school supplies for the school along the Uganda/Congo border, blankets for some of the disabled homeless people as well as operating costs for RAFI - Uganda (they currently need an office to run their organization).
Thank you so much for your support!
