Help Victims of Hurricane Ian

Tax deductible
Hi,

We are Evan Michaeli, Marlie Kass, Sebastian Demeter, and Ms. Rudolph, the Brimmer and May Environmental Club leaders.

On September 28, at 3:05 pm Eastern Standard Time, extremely dangerous Category 4 Hurricane Ian, with winds topped at 155 miles per hour, slammed into Florida’s West Coast by the city of Fort Myers. The storm registered nearly a foot and a half of storm surge and several inches of flooding. Houses, among other objects, were ruthlessly obliterated and thrown into the midst of the monster hurricane.

This storm is essential to our mission as a club because we saw the storm rapidly intensify. Climate change affects the intensity of storms, and we can see the difference in Ian. When making landfall in Cuba a couple of days ago, Ian was a Category 3 Hurricane. The storm was enough to knock out power on the entire island. But, when entering the Gulf of Mexico, the system rapidly gained speed. Waters at the moment in the Gulf are around five degrees Fahrenheit above the norm. In just a few hours, Hurricane Ian went from Category 4 to the cusp of Category 5, the worst hurricane category.

In light of the storm, we would like to open this GoFundMe for those interested in donating to the Red Cross to aid victims of Hurricane Ian. Thank you!

Sincerely,
The Environmental Club Leaders
