A family in need

Donation protected
On Saturday the 26th of November 2022, Chris and his wife Polly were out celebrating a family member's 60th birthday, as this was a rare night out together the couple decided to carry on their night in town and ended up on union street. That is when their lives changed, Chris was hit by a car, and emergency services and police attended the scene, closed off the road and rushed Chris to Derriford hospital, Chris had suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and fractured his eye socket from the impact of the vehicle. He was put into a medically induced coma and was given paralysis medication to allow his body to rest, despite doctors' best efforts the pressure in Chris's brain become so severe that he had to undergo a craniectomy to remove half his skull. The odds were against him and his family and 4 daughters to told to prepare for the worst. After a few more days Chris became even more unwell as he contracted ventilator-associated pneumonia and also had a midline shift causing tissue in his brain to be displaced. Chris' wife, children and family all gathered around his bedside cheering him on and praying for his recovery after 2 weeks Chris defied all odds, the pneumonia started to clear and his consultant was eager to wean Chris off the paralysis medication and try and bring him out of his coma, it was at this point doctors told Chris family he suffered a stroke due to the pressure on his brain and also caused damage to his hearing and eyesight. Fast forward a week and once again Chris's family are left in shock by his strength, determination and courage throughout his journey and it was those very qualities to lead him to define all odds again and begin to walk, talk and be with his family and children again. He is almost ready to be discharged home with support from agencies in the community. HE WON !!! but as we all know just because he won doesn't mean his fight is over. Chris now has many other battles to face in his recovery as well as wanting to support his family. Chris struggles with day-to-day tasks and requires to support of his wife and professionals, he finds it difficult to digest information and with his balance. He is now under a speech and language occupational therapist and physio. He will need another operation and another ICU stay when he has his titanium plate fitted. Chris is unable to return to work for the foreseeable future and due to his complex needs their current home is not adequate so they are being emergency moved. I am asking for help for the family to support them in the finical strain of moving house and bringing up a family of 6 can bring. They have already been through so much and have other worries yet to face. let's take some of that worry from them, Thankyou.
