"FREEDOM WITHOUT A FUTURE IS ANOTHER FORM OF SLAVERY" - Transitions Global

Worldwide, it is estimated that over twelve million people are considered enslaved today and over one million are children. In Cambodia alone, 35% of the 15,000 sex workers are children under the age of 16, some as young as five years old.

Since I left Cambodia over two years ago I have felt a lingering desire to return. I have finally found a way to combine my passion in hair and teaching with an incredible mission to transform and empower women and children with the Justice and Soul Foundation.

Justice and Soul's international outreach is a nationwide collection of stylists and other industry professionals who will be assisting in the rehabilitation and prevention of sexual exploitation around the world. I have been chosen along with various stylists to travel at my own expense to Cambodia. I will help in the opening of a new salon that will cater to some of the areas wealthiest. The catch? I will be educating and empowering former sex slaved, human trafficking, victims. I will contribute in training styling techniques, customer relations, and self empowerment to these women whom have faced the ultimate mistreatment in their past. What am I asking from you? Simple, to help me in this journey. The funds raised will go towards my travel expenses to get me to Cambodia and my living expenses while I am there, thus ensuring that I am at my best to aid in this great cause. Empowering and educating those who have suffered strengthens the resolve to end human trafficking.

I first heard about Justice and Soul through a friend and later found out that the multi-concept brand Davines, the brand I have been teaching with for over a year, is also apart of this incredible mission. Davines is committing to donating hair color and hair care products to be used in the training process. Through extensive and heartbreaking research I have found that in my heart I had to help and here is my chance. I am fortunate enough to be involved in an incredible industry dedicated to bringing out the best in others. The beauty industry is an ever-changing, creative and positive field to be in. As a hairdresser in the US for over 10 years I have had many opportunities for education all over the country. I have always been surrounded by positive and supportive influences in my career and now is my turn to give that back. By using my expertise in the beauty industry I will be able to teach cosmetology skills and provide life coaching, as well as support an ensure that these young women have the opportunity to create new careers in a marketable and reputable profession.

So this July I will dedicate a month to proudly be a part of the first round of volunteers going to inspire and build esteem in those who have been enslaved in trafficking.

Human trafficking in Cambodia has increased due to various factors, including poverty, socio-economic imbalance between rural and urban areas, increased tourism, lack of employment, education, and unsafe migration; poverty being the most significant cause of trafficking.
