TANZA - Ethnic Dance Group Trip

Donation protected
Camellia Folk Dance Festival 2016TANZA is an ethnic dance performing group from Millikan Middle School in Sherman Oaks, California. Under the direction of William (Billy) Burke the group performs dances from a wide variety of cultures. Our current repetoire includes: Jalisco, Mexico, Bulgaria, Hungary, Tunisia, Berber tribe of North Africa, 1890s America, Cuba, and Liberia. Other cultures will be introduced as the year goes on.

Last year we attended the Camellia Folk Dance Festival in Sacrmento, California. Twenty four students, making up about one quarter of the total attendance, participated in classes and performed. The article above was published in the Northern California Folk Dance Federation magazine "Lets Dance".

This year we would like to participate again. The cost last year was over $250 per student. This included hotel room, bus and festival attendance.  These students are Magnet students and come from all over Los Angeles. Even though Sherman Oaks is not a low income area, our students are not all from there. Many come from much less affluent areas of the city.

Any contributions will go towards lowering the cost for each student. This is a great experience and we have great hopes of attending again.
