Rades-Rauch Mission to Tanzania

Donation protected
In November myself, my husband Luke and brother Otto will travel to a community outside of Arusha, Tanzania with New Vision Soccer, a local non-profit charity organization formed here in Whatcom county that works in this community to provide a better future for the children. Each of us will have a mission while we are there, putting our own individual skills and services to use helping the children of this community strive for a better future.

Otto traveled to this same area with the New Vision team last year. He put his skills as a talented welder to use, creating a welding program available to the local young men so that they may use this trade to go on and get jobs to support their families. In order to create a successful program he purchased and donated the much needed welder and provided the other necessary tools and supplies in order to get this trade program up and running. Not only did he teach these young men a very valuable and employable trade(especially for their area), he taught them how to build chicken coops. To us this may seem like a fairly insignificant item, but to these people a chicken coop supports their livlihood, and a metal chicken coop is far less expensive and much more efficiant to build than a wooden coop, therefore welding is a vital skill. This year he will continue his welding program and will again need to supply the tools and supplies necessary to successfully teach this valuable skill.

I will be putting my services as a Dental Hygienist to work, providing dental care and oral health education to approximately 150-200 children. This area and this organization has never had a dental provider visit, therefore I will be pioneering this kind of trip and this oral health program. I will be responsible for supplying ALL the necessary equipment, instruments and supplies needed, as well as brainstorming how to set up a primative make-shift clinic to provide effective care to these children. The only thing I will have over there is a pop-up tent canopy to work under and some bottled water, no water line hook-ups and unreliable, often non-existent electricity. It is my goal to not only provide dental care to these children in need, but to teach the basics and importance of oral health to hopefully preserve a healthy quality of life for their future.

Luke will be putting his hard working hands to use, helping construct and fix-up a building that will be used as a trade school facility to house the growing educational oppourtunities such as Otto's welding program. With this trade school, these young men will be able to learn the valuable skills needed in order to gain employment to support themselves and their families. He will be responsible for gathering hand tools needed, not only for himself to use but also to donate to these young men and the community. By giving these young men simple hand tools and instruction, it is providing them with a means to make a living for themselves. Luke will also be helping with constructing chicken coops, again a very valuable necessity for life over there.

Together, it is our hopes and dream to make a difference in the lives of these children and their families, not just by giving to them, but by working with them and providing the skills and education they so desperatly need in order for them to have the means to provide for themselves to create a better future. As you can imagine a trip of this nature is no small task to organize and accomplish, and comes with a price, as Tanzania is a long ways away and just getting there will be a major feat in itself. However, we have the determination, drive and passion to make this goal a reality, so that we may offer ourselves and our hard working hands to provide a better life and a better future for those who are in need. We have the services to offer, and these people have the need, our hearts will not ignore the calling to help.

Please visit New Vision Soccer's website or their facebook page to read more on their mission, it's not just about soccer, it's about creating a better future for these children. The impact they have made in this community is nothing short of amazing and they continue to strive to provide the education and support necessary for these chilldren. Through New Vision Soccer the dreams of these children become a reality when they are given the opportunity to earn an education.

Thank you, thank you, thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who is interested in our mission and who may be able to help us accomplish our goal!!
