750 mile walk from South Sudan to Kenya

Who Am I?

Hi, my name is Lord Miles and I'm an explorer. Recently I was in Afghanistan during the fall of Kabul where I gave away a months paycheque to the people I came across and documented the Taliban invasion for the world to see.

What Is This Trip?

My next trip is a 750 mile walk from Juba, the capital of South Sudan to Kenya, a route that no western person has ever walked from the founding of South Sudan in 2011.
I'm bringing as much money as I can to hand out to people, however, my budget can only stretch so far, I'm looking to get help from charitable people so I can do more good, directly giving the money to the people.

What Impact Could This Have?

A Vice documentary shows that the average income for a top doctor in South Sudan is 30 USD per month with many living below this, most remote tribes have no income at all and rely on the land with many suffering from preventable diseases they can't pay to cure. Most of the country is malnurished and don't go to school. A $30 donation there is the equivalent of giving $3,000 USD or 2500 GBP to us, donations could make an immense difference. Donations will also allow me to document charities in the area which I can mention in the media to millions of people, getting them the reach they deserve.

Why Not Donate To A Big Charity?

The vast majority of big western charities do not operate in remote areas of South Sudan and those who did often are extremely corrupt with the majority of money going to already rich government officials in the nation. If you donate $1, there is a good chance that $0.8 will go towards salary and operations whilst only $0.2 will go towards someone. With myself, its the opposite where I'll actually meet the people in need, get their story out there, donate all the money directly into their hands and do what I can.

Will This Be Documented?

Absolutely, full transparency will be provided, I have a good 4k action camera with a professional audio setup which will allow me to document the entire journey. The footage will be edited and released to the public to raise awareness, showing that the money was donated and put the word out there of charities I came across in the country that need help. Identities will be hidden if the people being filmed request it in order to respect their privacy.

Will You Be Safe?

I've gotten all the equipment and protection available through careful planning. There are always risks but its a worthy cause I'm willing to work towards. I'm a strong Christian and I have faith that regardless of what happens, this will work out.

What If I Make A Big Donation?

I will be more than thankful, it will help tremendously. What I'm hoping to do is support local business and buy some items whilst in the country, with a big enough donation, I'd happily send items internationally to say thankyou (if shipping is covered).

Why Kenya?

I've come across a great young lad in Kenya who's looking to join the UK army and he's a fan of mine from Afghanistan, I'm planning to meet up with him and help him come to the UK to join our military. I'll happily tell his story to the world and help him any way I can.

Necessary questions and answers for GoFundMe:

1. Who you are

Miles Arthur Le-Vesconte Routledge, 22 years old.

2. Where you're from

Born in Edgbaston, Birmingham and raised in Sutton Coldfield, currently residing in Loughborough, UK

3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for and who will be receiving the funds

People I come across who need the help e.g. Children who are malnourished, single mothers, elderly people who are struggling to support themselves, disabled people, generally impoverished people. People will be questioned about their ties to terror groups and only innocent people will be donated to.

4. How the funds will be delivered

In person and in cash by myself during my travels as seen in my plan. If a person needs medicine, food or something else, I will personally buy it and hand it to them. All spending will be documented and accounted to in order to show that the funds are spent appropriately.

5. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible)

  • A majority will be spent on healthy foods as many suffer from malnutrition and given to these people
  • Essential medicine and medical equipment such as over-the-counter antibiotics
  • Transport, if someone from a remote area needs to visit the city for medical or to visit a family member, I will cover this
  • Water filtration will be good, handing out life-straws will help with people who don't have access to clean drinking water
  • Schooling, children who don't have the funds to go to school will have their school fees covered along side writing and reading equipment (books, pens, pencils)
  • Toys for children (dolls, action figures etc)
