Dear USM Friends of Lynn Dickinson,

In one way or another we all have been blessed by Lynn’s joy-filled, loving spirit. Now it’s our turn to offer her some compassionate, heart-centered support.

In the past year, Lynn’s husband Clyde has developed Alzheimer’s, which is now entering the advanced stage. Lynn is Clyde’s primary caretaker and, at the same time, their financial source. To support the two of them, she is teaching over a double full-time load as an adjunct instructor at two separate colleges. At the same time she is caring  for Clyde and assisting her daughter in college.

If any of you have had experience with Alzheimer’s you know that the role of the caretaker can be particularly heartbreaking and emotionally brutal. When we recently saw Lynn at Whole Foods, she was in tears every few minutes while at the same time affirming her trust in Spirit.

Clyde is in daycare three days a week while Lynn works. She has managed to pay for that daycare, but she is unable to cover additional hours necessary for in-home care ($20-$26 per hour) to allow her to do her grading, class preparation, grocery shopping, or anything else at all—not to mention time off, an absolute necessity for any caregiver for mental and emotional self-care.

There are three ways you can help Lynn:

1.     If you know anyone involved with the Motion Picture and Television Fund (like on the board of directors or working there or a major donor) who might be able to help Clyde get into the MPTF’s Alzheimer’s facility, Harry’s Haven, please leave a comment and I’ll put you in contact with Lynn.

2.    For Lynn’s immediate and on-going relief, please make any financial donation you can. I have posted a goal of $10,000, which would cover eight hours of in-home care once a week for a little over a year. Or, if Clyde is admitted to an Alzheimer’s home, it will handle a few months of the cost.

3.    If you would be willing to volunteer to spend time with Clyde, taking him for a hike or making a puzzle with him, that would also be a blessing for Lynn. Also, if you could help Lynn find independent caregivers (who charge $20 per hour rather than $26 per hour that agencies charge,) she'd be very grateful. Again, please leave a comment and I’ll put you in touch with Lynn.

If it is at all possible, please join me in assisting Lynn during this life challenge. No amount is too small—or too large. Thank you in advance for your help.
