Remi’s Life Saving Surgery

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Trina Stemley. First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to read our story. My sisters awoke to a dog owners worse nightmare on the morning of Monday, June 5th. Sweet joyous Remi went to bed on June 4th; nothing was out of the ordinary.

Suddenly at 4AM, Remi was acutely collapsing, breathing heavily, shaking, and unable to stand on her own. She was rushed to the VRCC emergency hospital, where we were informed she had an enlarged spleen. Unbeknownst to us, a common indicator of cancer in golden retrievers. How could Remi have cancer? She’s only 5 years old and lives very active, healthy lifestyle in Colorado.

Upon arrival at VRCC, Remi was administered fluids and taken in for X-rays. The X-rays showed a very large mass in the area of her spleen, which resulted in the need for blood work and an ultrasound. Upon waiting for the results of her blood work, the enlargement caused anemia and Remi quickly and dangerously declined; requiring life saving blood transfusion and emergency surgery.

There were somber and forceful goodbyes as Remi was rushed away. Not even 12 hours ago, she was happily in the comfort of her home surrounded by her favorite people. Suddenly, we were wondering if we would ever have her home again.

As a dog owner, your worst nightmare is learning your time with your best friend, furr child, adventure partner, cuddle buddy, and favorite living being is unexpectedly cut short. In life there’s never enough time, but we are asking for any donation towards the surgery for this sweet and loving girl.

If you know anything about us Stemley’s, it’s that we love our animals whole heartedly and unconditionally. Remi’s health events were unexpected, traumatic, and therefore, the surgical cost to keep Remi alive and healthy was something that had not been factored.

We know Remi would love the chance to come home, play with her cousin and furr friends, swim in all the rivers, roll in the grass, burp in our faces, and eat all the veggies. While there’s still much uncertainty, any donation to help support Remi at this fragile time is very appreciated.

We are hopeful we can bring our sweet girl home soon.
