Hi Friends,
For those of you that know me you know my passion in life today. I had the blessings last year to work with some teams in Negril Jamaica with children at a summer camp. As a father myself with children in Canada that are blessed I felt the need once again to go back and serve these children with knowledge, character and encouragement. Since I am a student also studying Social Work, I thought to start a small fundraising campaign to all of my friends and family "Who know why I am doing this and What it means to ME".
How it all began 2 years ago:
First off in 2012 I had this strong sense that I needed to get out of the corporate world of sales and marketing and truly wanted to pursue what my heart desired. Well this reality came true as a 38 year old man, who has never enrolled on post-secondary education; I was now a full time student.:-)
This is when I was introduced by a professor to go to Jamaica to work with kids in July 2013 at a kids camp in Negril, Jamaica. I thought long and hard about it. It seemed like the competition for the placement had so many other students, which my possibilities were low, but then I thought, why not? If I am here at college to build a strong foundation to learn, then "Why not me"? Well the reality came true and I was part of a wonderful organization that brought me to Negril, Jamaica for 10 days to work with 100 kids. This first experience literally confirmed that I am on the right track to work with others. These children were the gift to understand Social Work is the career path I wanted.
Well then it all started again. After my third semester at college, low on funds, children of my own to support, loans etc. etc. I had that pull on my heart again around Christmas 2013. I could begin to feel the promise I made the children that I would be back in summer 2014 for the full 22 days. I had no clue at the time and still uncertain how to pay for this trip but I did. I contacted the organization immediately, filled out the application and 3 days later I received an email that they would be delighted to have me back for summer 2014.
COST: $700.00 FLIGHT
$1500.00 VOLUNTEER FEE FOR MEALS AND LODGING
$300.00 ITEMS TO BRING AND BUY FOR KIDS IN JAMAICA
I truly know that I am being called to serve and be a part of a life changing. Only through your blessings, prayers and support we can "Jamaic-a-Difference!
