Mike Gallagher Medical/Rehab Fund
Spende geschützt
Mike Gallagher was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries June 9, 2015 after wrecking his motorcycle on Cottonwood Pass near Beuna Vista, CO.
Mike was driving westbound on CR 306 about 14 miles west of U.S. 24 when he entered a left turn, his back tire hitting a small rock, and he went off the road. He flew through the air and down an embankment and into a tree, his 2004 BMW motorcycle landing on top of him. A passing cyclist reported the wreck after noticing skid marks on the road and had decided to peek over the side of the mountain. Emergency responders got the call, and luckily a Chaffee County Fire Protection District crew was nearby with a physician in tow because the crew happened to be performing training excersices in the area.
Mike had spent at least 12+ hours pinned under his bike slowly dying on the side of that mountain. He suffered injuries including several broken vertebrae and severe burns to his back, which needed skin grafts from his right leg to repair those burns. The burns were a result of the bike's hot oil and gasoline dripping onto his body and burning through his bike jacket. He suffered a compound fracture to his left arm/shoulder, and unfortunately, his left foot/leg above the ankle had to be amputated. His right leg was also pinned under the bike and he does not have full feeling/function of his right leg. Mike spent several weeks at St. Anthony's hospital in Lakewood and on July 22, 2015 he was transferred to the Life Care Center of Evergreen.
It's not certain how long Mike can stay at the Life Care Center, but he will not have a home to go to when he is released. Mike's ultimate goal is to gain enough independence and mobility to be able to live on his own again. It is hopeful that this fund will help him with housing, medical equipment, and personal care when he is ready.
Thank you for your kindness. And please send prayers for his recovery.
