Packed to the Future.

The "Packed to the Future" fundraiser is planning to provide backpacks filled with basic school supplies for each student at the Joce de La Cruz Mera Elementary school in Aserradores, Nicaragua. It is also working towards donating a laptop for each of the teachers of the school.
Aserradores is a small fishing village that depends on agriculutre and fishing for income. It is an area of extreme poverty where people struggle daily to provide for their families.
The school has eight classrooms and 240 students from the surrounding area. Some students walk great distances just to get there. Students attend this school until grade six and can only continue with their education if their parents can afford to send them outside of the village. The school has very few supplies and only recently has had running water and washrooms. This was all due to people volunteering their time to help.
After spending a considerabe amount of time in the village in the past three years, it is my goal to make good on the good fortunes we enjoy and join together to provide this deserving school a hands-up in its efforts to educate its youth.
On April 9th, 2014, I will be making the 9,000 kilometer journey from Ottawa, Ontario to Aserradores, Nicaragua to drop of these supplies and hopefully shine a little light into every child's life. In addition, I will be donating my own truck to a deserving member of the community who has made a profound difference in my life. The goal is to have everything accomplished in 60 days: a 60 day transformation of the soul you could say.
I will be updating the journey on a regular basis on my blog and this site to keep everyone in the loop of our adventure. At the end, I will also be releasing a video a better illustrate what kind of joy, as a group, we have brought into the lives of these children.
