Katie Horne and I worked together for a short time. However, she was one of the biggest givers with a huge heart for people and an even bigger heart for animals. Katie always was telling others including myself how she was always hosting fundraisers for police K9’s and always helping people! Katie also ran United Way Efforts for over 5 years in our Cleveland office. On December 27 2019, Katie shared on Facebook her son (who’s a pediatric patient) is going through a tough time and was life flighted to Cleveland Clinic’s main campus where he had surgery on his brain as they found a tumor. Shortly after Luke was diagnosed with cancer. Luke had to spend his 10th birthday in the hospital. Katie and her husband, Daniel have not been able to work as taking care of Luke is a full time job; especially while Katie and Dan are experiencing a loss of income during this time. Luke has a glioma in his lower spinal cord and throughout his entire brain. While pathology shows it is a low grade tumor, it behaves as a high grade tumor.He has spent 36 days admitted to the hospital since this began. Luke has to be remain in a controlled environment or watched extremely close as he is unable to maintain his own temperature. On April 14th, 2020 Luke peacefully and comfortably passed away after a long 16 month battle with his cancer. At this time, any donations will be used to cover funeral expenses and to help his parents, Katie and Luke find their new normal and have some time together to grieve.
