Medical Mission

The world has never been more polarized and in need of a helping hand.

Throughout my time as an emergency room RN in Fort Wayne, and previously downtown Indianapolis, I consistently see people within the Hoosier state in need of help from others. While continuing to give emergency care to these individuals during the frigid months, Ian McAffee and I have been given a unique opportunity to attend a trip to Central America and give back to an impoverished nation in Nicaragua.

Serious issues rarely travel through Ian and I's thoughts and even more seldomly appear on our social media platforms. Admittingly, asking for assistance is tough for us in our personal lives and careers, but Ian and I are in need your help.

After flying into the capitol, Managua, we will  be taking 4x4 trucks or horses to a small village called El Cedro to spend 10 days in the local community. In El Cedro, myself as well as other nurses from Methodist Hospital, will be doing basic healthcare assessments and interventions for men, women, and children of the community. These assessments will be essential to some of the people in the village, however, there is an even bigger obstacle to their overall health that most of us American's take for granted daily:

 Clean water.

Nicaragua is widely considered the poorest country in Central America and most families live on 2 dollars per day. Bringing clean water to the region by implementing a  water filtration system will vastly improve the regions quality of life and cut down on sickness and illness in the village.

Why are we asking for help?

Ian and I are paying out of pocket for our flights to Managua, but are still in need to help cover ground costs to get from Managua to El Cedro. Furthermore, we are in need of covering our caloric needs in the form of rice and beans, as well as bottled water. Lastly, and most importantly, the remainder of the expenses will be for project donation, which is installing the aforementioned water filtration systems throughout the village to provide clean water to the local homes, schools, and churches.

Any donation you could give towards our mission of improving the lives of everyone on our planet would be greatly appreciated.

 With Sincere Appreciation,

 Kody Davis and Ian McAffee
