Medical Mission Trip to Lake Atitlan, Guatemala- Help Me Help Others!


Being able to go to your doctor when you are sick is a luxury not enjoyed all over the world. I am 3rd year medical student who is attempting to attend a medical mission trip to provide care for residents of the Lake Atitlan area in Guatemala. The Lake Atitlan area is remote. Some areas are accessible by boats or remote roads that are extensions from those from the mountains. The average income is low and the medical facilities are minimal. A small hospital is located in Santiago for medical needs but this is primarily staffed by foreign volunteers. 

 
Medical missions form the backbone of care provided to locals. This care provides screening and prevention for diseases that otherwise would be unavailable. Many times, these basic treatments can mean a world of difference and prevent long term health problems that shorten life spans and cause chronic pain and suffering.

I have payed my own way through medical school so far and do not have all of the extra funds to join this cause.  Will you please help donate to fund my trip to help this underserved area? The cost is approximately $2000 USD: includes travel, accommodations and food. It will last from May 3rd to May 11th, 2014 and will serve the Lake Atitlan area of Guatemala.
