Ish Barbee Assistance Fund Trust

About twenty or so years ago a small Trust was created by members of the class of 1978. Some ten years ago a small group of three took over the Trust and the role of looking after Beta’s own Charles “Ish” Barbee.

Thanks to a successful fund raiser that started in 2009 and with the help of many friends and brothers we have been able to care for Ish in a manner that we believe he likes very much. We pay his Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance, some medical bills, cable, gas, water/sewer, telephone, electricity, cell phone, taxes on the house and most other surprises that come along.

Just an FYI, Ish has a great girlfriend so we all know he is back to his old self in that role.

Most recently we were able to get him a 2005 Silverado cab and a half pickup. We decked it out and have had numerous major repairs to keep him safe. Ish is moving around Chapel Hill and his special place in Efland not far down the road. And always says “Rightly" (see video clip below).



This past spring with the help of a father and son team of dentists and members of the classes ’76, ’77 and 2017, we were able to enroll Ish as a patient in the UNC Dental School for a full replacement set of teeth. Ish and everyone cannot wait until that happens.

While Ish is good, the Trust is running low on funds. The Trustees have a great concern that Ish’s health could, and will, change over the next 5- 10 years. We must be more prepared for those changes and added expenses, as well as the ongoing expenses being incurred now.

It is with this in mind that I ask you to reach deep into your heart and let it guide you through what you feel you can do for this 2018 “GOFUNDISH” GoFundMe campaign created to assist the last Barbee that will ever have worked at 114 South Columbia Street – Chapel Hill, NC.

Our goal is an ambitious $100,000. With members of the 60’s and 70's ready and standing by to help start us off, we feel we can do this. You do not always get an opportunity to support a friend you know and his family’s tradition with our fraternity and our house.
