A fundraiser like no other
“KM for a Cause” is a special kind of fundraiser Each year, participants set themselves fitness goals achievable from March 9th to April 2nd 2020. While fulfilling their challenges, our athletes inform friends and family of their progress on social media.
These online publications are utilized – most importantly – to solicit donations to support the Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal (NWSM)!
The project’s mission is twofold; it aims to promote the physical health and well-being of McGill’s student body, while also supporting the NSWM in their purpose of providing a safe environment where native women in the need can begin to rebuild their lives. The Shelter offers support and frontline services to First Nations, Inuit and Métis (Aboriginal) women and children to promote their empowerment and their independence.
As such, the NWSM’s primary purpose is to help Indigenous women. Donations, which go directly to the shelter, are employed toward providing food and shelter, and spiritual healing to the Montreal native community.
Too often, we hear tragic stories about the marginalization and mistreatment of indigenous women in our country. Frequently, these stories pass unnoticed. While there has been a growing place for these concerns in the past years, there is clearly still a crucial need to bring their suffering to light.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s first call to action is about keeping Indigenous families together and keeping children out of the care of governments; the Native Women’s Shelter serves this precise purpose.

Another year, another success
The March 2019 iteration of our fundraiser was absolutely fantastic, thanks to all our enthusiastic athletes. It was the fifth edition of the fundraiser, and we raised approximately $2532. This year, in 2020, we aim to collect $3000!
