Basics Global,Typhoon Yolanda Food drive
Following
the destruction of the province of Aklan in Typhoon Yolanda in November
we are now issuing an urgent appeal. Due to the
destruction of a vast quantities of crops in the province, 10,000
people in the villages Malinao, Madalag, Makato and Libacao are now
faced with the imminent threat of food shortage and starvation. It will
take at least 6 months for the next harvest of the staple foods, rice,
bananas, coconuts and mangoes to be produced. With this supply also
constituting as the source of income for these 10,000 citizens the next 6
months at least will be a desperate period. Basics Global with your
support aims to supply as much food as possible to these vulnerable
families to reduce the impact of malnutrition. Due to the time and
cost of shipping items we are appealing for sponsorship of food that
will be purchased in Aklan by our volunteers on their next planned
visits the first will be in March 2014, these items will then be
distributed by Basics Global and the NGO on the ground. The sponsorship
packages are as follows;
AED 90 provides 30 kg of rice, enough for one family for one month
AED 200 provides 30 kg rice and 3 tins of sardine per day for a family for one month.
