Save The Bees! Help us restore a habitat
Donation protected
With expanding agricultural and urban development, wild bee populations are declining. Our goal is to restore a wild habitat for native bee and other pollinator species by eliminating 10 acres of invasive grasses and planting a mix of native-perennial wildflowers in their place on our family farm. Humanity depends on Bee's to pollinate our crops. Without them, we don't eat!
Our biggest challenge currently is a lack of funds and equipment. We do not own a rotary tiller for our tractor. This implement allows us to till the existing soil to give the proper planting conditions to sow the wildflower seed.
Once the seeds have been spread, they need good contact with the soil, this is done with a Culti-packer attachment for the tractor. This piece of equipment uses rollers to press the seed into the soil to allow germination.
Then comes the wildflower seed itself. The price of seed was a great surprise to us, and it almost turned us away from the idea. A 50 lbs bag of seed is over $800. This is enough seed to cover around 2 acres. We believe that 3 bags if stretched will allow is to cover 10 acres. We are taking into account that the flowers will drop seed year after year and eventually the fields will thicken over time.
We hope that you choose to help us on our journey to not only making our farm a beautiful place, full of color but a place for bees and butterflies to thrive and live again.
Thank you!
