Troop 1292 Global Service Trip
Donation protected
Hi!
We are Alexa, Allison, Becca, Fiona, Gillian, Madison and Raya, and we are Girl Scout Troop 1292.
We have a HUGE goal to go to Negril, Jamaica, during our spring break to help transform a newly built computer lab at Cove School into a place where students want to spend time. Here's a picture of Cove School:
For this global service trip, we will be
researching Jamaican heritage and working with the school's principal and
students to create and install a mural in the computer lab. (We may also be
creating and installing a mural near the school's athletic fields.)
Cove School has students close in age to us, and we hope to work alongside them to have the chance to interact with
them and learn more about their life in Negril.
While we are in Negril, we
also want to "fill-the-pantry" for a school of 3-6
year old students. Students at this school "“ called Ketto School "“ often have their
only meal of the day while at school. And sometimes that meal is nothing more
than 1/2 a piece of fruit and fruit drink. We want to fill their school pantry as
best we can, for as long as we can. Here's a picture from Ketto:
We know there is so much need
in America, even here in Indianapolis, which is why we also are working on a project to serve an Indianapolis school, but we are really
excited to have the opportunity to see another country and learn about how kids
our age see the world.
The adults we're working with say things like "we can't
fully appreciate what we have until we've seen the world through someone else's
eyes." We're not sure we completely understand that, but we're hoping you get it! :)
As a troop we are working to
raise $15,000 to make this trip possible.
That would take 30,000 boxes of
cookies.
Yes, 30,000.
For a troop our size, we don't see any way to make 30,000
boxes of cookies happen! So, we are planning events like a movie night, a
pancake breakfast and a babysitting night.
We are working with our
leaders to write grant applications to foundations. We're also hoping some area
restaurants will host Troop 1292 nights. And, we each are asking our family and
friends to personally support our effort.
Anything you can do to support us will
help so much!
Thank you so much for even
considering supporting us. In addition to everything else, we
would be the first group of 8th graders our island contact has ever
worked with on this type of thing "“ and we think that's pretty cool!
With your help (along with
all the other things we mentioned above), we hope to make life a little better
for students just like us in Jamaica.
Thanks so much!
