Hello wonderful friends and famly. I'm writing on behalf of my dear friend, Cassie Holmes, and her sweet family. On Tuesday, May 9th, Cassie's husband, Jon, broke his foot while riding his dirt bike. X-rays and CT scans confirmed a lisfranc fracture that requires surgery. Since the swelling is so severe, surgery cannot be done until May 31st. Jon just began a new job with Amtrak, and federal regulations do not allow him to work until he is healed. Since he is still training, he is not a Union member yet, and has no access to short term disability. With Amtrak being a federal company, he also has no access to MA state disability benefits. His doctor projects a 4 month recovery. This would put him back to work in early September at best. Cassie is working two jobs tirelessly to try and compensate the loss of income, but it won’t be enough.
