Volunteer Trip to Cambodia

This June my friend and I have decided to spend two weeks volunteering, through Reach Out Volunteers, in Cambodia. During our time in Cambodia we will spend the first week on an elephant sanctuary helping provide homes for elephants that have been mistreated or abandoned by their owners. The sanctuary provides a safe place for this amazing species and as a volunteer I will be doing activities such as planting food sources, creating a safe environment and bathing these amazing creatures. As many of you know I want to be an large animal vet, ideally in a zoo, so this will be an incredible opportunity to gain working knowledge about these creatures. During my second week we drive across the country to work in a village. This village is struggling in poverty and we work to improve the villagers life. I will be building homes for the locals and helping to teach English, and spending time with and working with the children. This is going to be an amazing experience as I will be immersed in a different culture and get to experience the lifestyle on the opposite side of the world. However I do have to pay my way to Cambodia as well as a program fee that helps offset the cost of my accommodations and building materials. This all adds up quickly.
