Alex (Big Dawg's) Medical Expenses
You all ready for a tear jerker? My name is Vanessa Manson and I'd like to tell you about my little cousin, an amazing kid named Alexander Sanchez, AKA Alex, AKA Big Dawg! 21 years ago he was born into this family and diagnosed with down syndrome, from the second he entered our lives he's brought nothing but joy, humility, and positivity. Hes's taught us all the true meaning of resiliency, how to be humble and love unconditionally! He loves reggaeton and eating good food (he is a Sanchez after all.) Well, a couple weeks ago his parents, my Aunt Darla and Uncle Danny, brought Alex to the ER because he wasnt feeling well...which led to gall bladder surgey...which led to complications... which led to ARDS syndrome (respiratory failure/fluid in the lungs). Alex went from bad to worse, and in what seemed like the blink of an eye our world was crashing down. He was put into a medically induced coma and put on 100% oxygen because his body wasn't producing any on it's own. On May 27th we received a text message saying that Alex was fighting for his life, and my entire family raced to Jacksonville to see him, faith in our hearts, praying that the next call we got wouldn't be the one we all dreaded. Hours turned into days, and slowly, SLOWLY, but steadily, Alex is in recovery! Little by little they reduced oxygen from the machine and his body made more and more on its own. Little by little they took him off the paralytic meds for short periods of time where he would respond to cues and words from his loving parents. By the power, grace, and glory of GOD Alex is getting better! He has a long road ahead of him, his future holds months of recovery and they still have to complete the gall bladder surgery. My aunt and uncle are soldiers, but the challenges they've faced and have yet to face have caused them to miss work and put them in a situation of financial strain. No parents should have to worry about finances when focusing on the recovery and life of their son. Any amount of money would be more than appreciated! Even single dollars add up. Uncle Danny was a champion fighter back in his prime, and it looks like the apple didn't fall far from the tree. It's in his blood, this kid is a fighter and we look forward to having him home in his element, spreading joy and laughter and living his best life.
