My name is Hailey Ratliff. Mary Ann Laughlin has been one of my dearest friends for the better part of 30 years. Mary Ann is a tremendous giver and would never ask for help herself; therefore, I am going to do it for her.
Mary Ann, along with her husband Tim, founded Restoration Training Center and have been involved in virtually every aspect of ministry over the past thirty years; which includes residential care for life controlling issues, family counseling and ministry in the criminal justice system. They have ministered within the Parole Division in Texas and have been involved in prison and jail ministry throughout Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. The Angel Bear Project is the benevolent arm of Restoration Training Center and reaches hundreds of people throughout the year with food, financial assistance and personal care products. Mary Ann founded the project years ago and continues to oversee its operation even though she has a debilitating disease that causes much pain, stiffness and discomfort. Mary Ann has a debilitating disease called Dystonia. Dystonia is a movement disorder in which a person's muscles contract uncontrollably. The contraction causes the affected body part to twist involuntarily, resulting in repetitive movements or abnormal postures. Dystonia can affect one muscle, a muscle group, or the entire body. Dystonia affects about 1% of the population, and women are more prone to it than men.
Mary Ann lost her insurance and because of her health issues and cannot get insurance. Obama Care will not help her because the doctors that she needs to see do not take this insurance. Her doctor visits are expensive and so is the medication she is taking. She now has an infection that is quickly going to turn in to sepsis if she does not get it treated. Because of the medication she takes for her dystonia, she cannot orally take antibiotics and will have to be hospitalized so that she can be given the antibiotics she needs intravenously. On top of that, she just learned that she has a spot on her liver and desperately needs to have tests done to have this diagnosed. Unfortunately, they do not have the money to pay out of pocket anymore and are in desperate need of a miracle.
All the funds collected here will go for medical visits, testing, medication and hospitalization for the infection in her body. The funds are needed as soon as possible. If the infection gets in to her blood stream and is not treated, she will die. I cannot bear the thought of losing my beautiful friend. She has spent her life caring and doing for others and has done so willingly while in excruciating pain. In thirty years I have never known Mary Ann to ask anyone for anything. She would suffer in silence before she would ask anyone for help. She has always put others before herself and her health.
