Did you know the average age a child is recruited into sex-trafficking is 12-13 years old!?
Stand Together Against Trafficking is dedicated to ending sex trafficking of our school-aged children here at home. We are a group of concerned parents ready to educate our communities about the haunting dangers of sex trafficking. Our goal at STAT is to reach middle and high school students through both in-school education programs and youth-oriented groups.
Parents often worry about their child being "snatched" during a moment of distraction in a store or parking lot. However, even more insidious are the psychological tactics traffickers now use: an email address, a Facebook page or a cell phone number- that is all that is needed today to connect with our teens. As a parent, chances are you won't even know a connection has been made with your child.
Sex trafficking isn't something that happens only in a far away country. it is not simply about race or poverty. It isn't happening in only "those parts of town." No child is immune from this possible tragedy.
We must STAND TOGETHER to prevent our children from becoming another statistic.
Through both in-school education programs and youth-oriented groups we will present our curriculum. The specific topics will be depend upon the age group, but here are a few of our focal points:
Tricks recruiters use.
Where recruiters look for girls.
What to do if you or a friend are approached by a possible trafficker.
The sequence of events that occur after a trafficker connects with a new child. The importance of always being aware of your surroundings and "trusting your gut."
How to create boundaries and healthy relationships.
We are seeking funds to get STAT started. Our expenses include printing costs, presentation materials and items needed for our small group activities. Please consider helping us launch this critical initiative. Our children need your help more then ever.
