Abaco Hurricane Relief

As many of you know, Hurricane Dorian recently devastated the island of Abaco, Bahamas as well as many neighboring islands.  We have been visiting the island for years and know many people that have lost everything.  Abaco is a very remote island and hard to reach other than by boat or small aircraft.  We are assembling a group of boats and planes to bring supplies to the island to help feed, clothe and provide temporary shelter to the local residents.  We are trying to raise more money towards this effort and any donation would be greatly appreciated.

For those of you who don't know us personally, and to provide more detailed information since this campaign is being shared on social media, we live in Hollywood, Florida and have been visiting Abaco and the surrounding islands with family and friends for many years.  We know many of the island residents and business owners.  Abaco is a very small island and there are no stores with supplies that the residents need in the aftermath of Dorian.  We have organized a group of friends and business associates that will donate their time, boats and planes (at a later time when the airport is open) to bring necessities to the island as quickly as possible.  We have boats already stocked and ready to leave this Thursday or Friday, depending on the weather conditions.

We started this GoFundMe campaign because so many people asked what they could do or contribute to our effort.  All of the proceeds raised will be used for construction supplies (chainsaws, plywood, nails, etc.), fans, bottled water, non-perishable food, clothing, formula and diapers, first aid kits, pet food and any other items that we learn are needed after our first trip there this weekend.  None of the funds raised will be used for the overhead expenses of this effort, including boat transportation or personnel.  The only amount that will not go towards supplies is the percentage that GoFundMe takes to use its platform.  The funds from this campaign will be withdrawn before our next trip over to purchase the supplies needed from Home Depot, Costco and Walmart.  The supplies will then be distributed to local residents at Red Bay Marina or Albury's Ferry Service, wherever there is an intact dock.  We are in contact with many residents in Abaco who will get the word out and help organize the distribution once we arrive.
