My Brother's Keeper (MBK) is an orphanage in Careysburg, Liberia that is home to approximately 40 children ranging in age from 2-18 years old. The orphanage has been providing a home for children for over 15 years. The Founder and Director of the Orphanage is an incredible man named Ralph and the "mom" of the orphanage is a wonderful woman named Eta. Both are extremely humble and genuine, giving everything they have to raise these precious kids. The orphanage is also a critical asset to the community, running a school for community children during the day and acting as a central meeting place for community members on the weekends.
Even though Ralph and Eta have created a nurturing and loving home for the MBK children, they rely on donations and other funding sources to cover the day-to-day expenses. MBK has received numerous book donations over the last several years which were housed in a shipping container and unused by the children. Since the school and community do not have a library, private donations were raised by Jessica Stretz to begin construction of the library off of the shipping container (thank you to those that donated). Additional funds are now needed to complete the construction so the children can have a quite and peaceful place to read and learn.
The goal of $10,000 is based on an thorough assessment done by a US colleague who is a civil engineer living in Monrovia. The funds will be used for toilets, a new roof, shelving for the books, furniture, paint, bars for the windows, etc. He has graciously offered to manage and oversee the construction, ensuring the children have a safe and
enjoyable place to learn.
On behalf of MBK and the kids, thank you for anything that you can contribute, the money will go a long way for years to come for these special kids and the community.
