Pursuing My LEGACY: Service & Education

Dear Family and Friends,
On Saturday, March 29, 2014, I will be presented to society at the 2014 Golden Legacy Ball sponsored by the Jack and Jill of America, Inc., Montgomery County Maryland Chapter. The Golden Legacy Ball will celebrate Leadership, Elegance, Grace, Achievement, Chivalry & Youth.
This event is the culmination of several months of workshops on leadership, culture, community service, and etiquette --- all designed to prepare me to lead and serve in our community. My participation in this activity is to honor the memories of my Grandfathers - Eugene Powell and Clifford Young. I am asking for your support in this journey by purchasing an advertisement in the Souvenir Journal for the Golden LEGACY Ball.
Currently, I am a Sophomore at James Hubert Blake High School in Silver Spring, Maryland. At Blake, I play Alto Saxophone in the Roaring Bengals Marching Band and the Concert Band. In my Freshman year, I was the Goalkeeper for the Junior Varsity (JV) Soccer team, played Small Forward/Shooting Guard on the JV Basketball team and was a Defender on the JV Lacrosse team. This year, I continue to participate as a member of the Roaring Bengals and I was just voted Co-Captain of the Blake JV Basketball team. I am working hard in school and my efforts paid off when I received a Certificate of Merit for Honors English and Marching Band for the first marking period.
In addition, I have served as a Counselor in Training at the Silver Spring YMCA. For the past three years, I volunteered with the Never Back Down Foundation's Alex's 5K Run/Walk and Ben's Run. Over the past 3 years, I have earned approximately four times the minimum number of Student Service Learning hours required for graduation. My goal is to accumulate over three hundred hours and earn the Certificate of Meritorious Service.
After Blake, I plan to continue my post secondary education and am considering the Universities of Kansas, Memphis, Hawaii, and Tennessee to name a few. And, I am always open to suggestions!
As a participant in the Golden Legacy Cotillion-Beautillion, the funds I raise will be awarded to two 501(c)3 charitable organizations: The National Center for Children and Families and the Jack and Jill of America Foundation. The more ads sold by each debutante and beau, the greater the positive impact we can have on our community. If I raise the most advertising revenue, my sales from the Cotillion-Beautillion program may contribute toward my receiving the coveted title of Mister Golden Legacy.

~ Business Card, $50
