Fund Fern 2014
Over the last few years I have worked tirelessly in an effort to improve our island home and protect our community, environment, culture and unique way of life here on Kaua'i.
I have engaged the community and
organized multiple protests relating to biotech GMO experiments on Kaua'i. I
have spoken to countless individuals about the concerns, organized door-to-door
campaigns, developed flyers and campaigns, and extensively engaged the public
and media regarding this issue.
I organized permitting and approvals for
both the March in March and the Mana March.
In November of last year I started
meeting regularly with Gary Hooser to help develop Bill 2491 - relating to
pesticides and GMOs. Since that time I have continued to support and defend
Bill 2491 and the community on this issue.
I helped to establish and develop "˜Ohana
o Kaua'i as a productive and respected community involvement organization and
obtained funding for "˜Ohana o Kaua'i to continue growing and working in our
community. We are committed to using 100% of these funds for projects,
campaigns and our community and will not be taking salaries direct from the
organization. This allows for all "˜Ohana o Kaua'i donors and supporters to be
confident that their entire donations have been and will continue going
directly to serve our community. Please check out our campaigns and projects at
ohanaokauai.org
I have engaged our community on important issues relating to development, water and resource management and access, agriculture, waste management, transportation and many other areas. Throughout this time attending as many meetings and community outreach opportunities as possible.
There are countless people that have expressed
support for the work I have done, the media and press releases I have produced
in relation to Bill 2491 and the marches, the community organization, radio
involvement and more. I am so grateful for all of them! I have not had some
specific way to accept this offered help, until a very dear uncle and friend gave
me this idea...
If I could find 250 people/families in
our community that would commit to $10 a month donation, for 6 months, then I
could pay my bills and get by over the next 6 months and keep working overtime
towards our goals of health, sustainability, ample clean food and water and the
protection and support of our community.
I will never stop, but these donations
could allow me to obtain a lot more in a lot less time and continue this
community engagement full time, while sharing these milestones with you.
Donations will allow me to continue attending, engaging and responding to all relevant council and county meetings, developing materials and teaching as a guest lecturer at our high schools and educational facilities, developing media and press about the issues we face here on Kaua'i. Funding will allow me to follow the bills being introduced on a state level this legislative season.
It will also allow me to
dedicate more time to developing our water rights campaign to help restore flowing
water to important stream systems and agricultural locations. Donations will allow me to seek more funders
for "˜Ohana o Kaua'i projects (including 'Ohana Gardens) and community work and continue building the
framework of our organization and write grants for other community projects we
want to develop.
I will be your on contract environmental
scientist/officer working with the support of and for the people!!
Your support would be greatly
appreciated and would support a brighter and more abundant future for our
island and community.
Mahalo!!
