Thanksgiving Boxes - Patrick Family

Donation protected
****Update***** In 2018 we raised a total of $1,750 and in 2019 we raised an additional $3,465.

In efforts of showing the history of our mission and updates over time, we have intentionally kept the same GoFundMe page. Because of this, our fundraising total for 2020 will look to be skewed as our starting amount was $5,215. Our goal this year is $6,000 which is why our page shows a fundraising goal of $11,215.

The holidays are such a fun time to see all of the happy faces on children without a care in the world.  Unfortunately, sometimes they are exposed to the harsh reality of life way too soon.  After having children it became important to our family to create traditions and rhythms.  It also was a priority to raise our children with a heart for serving the Lord and others.

5 years ago we were inspired by a woman’s story of how at a young age someone brought Thanksgiving dinner to their house during a time that her family was struggling financially.  Even at a young age, she may not have understood everything, but she was impacted.  That one simple gesture brought hope and light to a dark situation and that one simple gesture changed the course of that girl’s life.  She grew into an adult and began reflecting on how during the tough times of life these gestures brought them through and gave them hope.  Since 2014 she has been raising money to deliver Thanksgiving dinner boxes to other families in need hoping to change the course of someone else’s life providing hope and light in a dark situation. She has raised over $16,000 since starting.

After reading this inspiring story and trying to imagine what this child and many others all over go through, we were motivated to action.  God has blessed us in so many ways.  It is our responsibility and desire to share His love and bless others.  In 2016, we put together a Thanksgiving Dinner Box of our own.  It included enough food for a family of four, a gift card to cover the turkey and perishable items needed, decorative plates and napkins, a decorative dish towel, and holiday poem written by our grandmother.  Our hope was the meal would feed their bodies, and the beautifully set table and poem with their loved ones around would feed their soul.  In 2017, we were blessed to be able to assemble and donate three boxes.  We were so happy, but we also felt a desire to reach more families and hope it would cause a ripple effect in giving.  In 2018, after much thought and prayer, we stepped out in faith to try and help as many families as possible.  We opened this GoFundMe page with the hope of reaching a larger audience.  We were blown away by everyone's generosity and God's provision in being able to donate 56 boxes, equating to over 200 people being fed.   In 2019,  the Lord blessed us mightily as our friends and family stepped up in a big way as we were able to donate 87 boxes, equating to over 300 people having a Thanksgiving Dinner.  God also blessed us with a new partnership, Girl's Leap,  which empowers young girls in our local community.

2020 has been unlike any our family (and likely yours) has known. We have experienced many blessings and felt God's provision yet we've also experienced deep sadness, heartache, and confusion with the world around us. This year our church reported that they've seen an increase in need at their foodbank and we've heard similar stories all over the country. The children of Central Ohio have experienced drastic changes to their worlds. Many who faced difficulties and hunger are experiencing an even bleaker road ahead.

Your open hearts and generosity has been overwhelming and we are beyond appreciative. This year if you are able, we ask you to prayerfully consider giving more than ever before as the need is so great. In a time with such great division in our city, state, and country we are asking everyone to come together, to unify.

No matter the circumstances, children shouldn't be denied the basic right of food in their belly, love in their hearts, hope for the food, and a little Holiday Magic.

God Bless
