Beschermde donatie
This November, a walk in memory of Edel Donohoe Coyle will take place from James Fort to Charles Fort in Kinsale Co. Cork. Edel sadly lost her brave battle against cancer in June 2021.
Funds raised by 'Fort-to-Fort for Edel' will be donated to support the newly developed Paediatric Cancer Genetics Clinic at Children's Health Ireland (CHI) in Crumlin Children's Hospital.
Li-Fraumeni Syndrome (LFS) is a rare cancer predisposition syndrome caused by changes in an important gene called TP53.
Individuals with a diagnosis of LFS are genetically predisposed to developing many types of cancers that can occur during their lifetime. Approximately 40% of individuals with LFS develop their first cancer in childhood.
Individuals with a diagnosis of LFS can now avail of cancer surveillance strategies aimed at detecting cancers early and improving patient outcomes.
Patient and family resources will be developed to support individuals with a diagnosis of LFS. Together with the Paediatric Cancer Genetics team at CHI, they will work to develop a comprehensive pathway of care to help patients and families with LFS.
