Aid for Haiyan

The Philippines still desperately need food, water and medical aid due to the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. Leyte and Northern Cebu have been hit with destructive force and islands including Bohol, Malapascua, and Bantayan Island have been totally wiped out with little to no help at this point. Our mission is to assist the volunteers that are focusing on these smaller islands that have not received the media attention and as a result are being ignored in the efforts. Resources are limited and local government has not stepped in with the amount of aid needed.
In 2009, I had the privilege of getting to move from the USA to work in this part of the Philippines for a year. Through my fortunate short time of getting to live here, I met so many amazing and generous Filipinos that opened their hearts and homes to me. Now they are being faced with tragedy and we wanted to create a way for people to donate and give a helping hand. I've been in contact with a dear long-time local friend, Kate Vargas, and her brother, Lou Vargas, who along with locals on the islands have arranged relief organizations and volunteer groups to get aid to areas that have not received any help. Each donation will be spilt to several groups, spearheaded by a trusted non-profit organization Give Back Cebu (www.givebackcebu.com). One group is packing food and water donations; another is helping make temporary shelters; while an additional group is from a nursing school that is building first aid camps on site and gathering medication and dressing kits.
Food, water, clothing, medication, shelter, and gas for transportation of goods are among some of the few things that are very much needed. Even a dollar goes a long way and these cash donations fund both supplies and the distribution the goods. Those in charge of these small relief groups have incredible hearts and are stepping in during this time of need. We can all help in making a difference in Typhoon Haiyan's victims lives by making even a little sacrifice.
All donations will be accounted for and receipts can be provided. These much needed donations gathered will truly be given to those in need. Thank you for taking the time to contribute.
