Terry Waters Fund

Donation protected
Terry Waters is the Maintenance Supervisor at Camden Habersham. In May of 2013, he went to his family physician with some symptoms of muscle twitching and tiredness. His property was short staffed at the time and Terry was working a lot, so at the time he thought some of his symptoms could be chalked up to just being overworked. His symptoms worsened over the next few months and he started tripping and falling frequently. In September, 2013, his doctor sent him to a neurologist and Terry was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or (ALS). ALS is often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," and is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. At this time, there is no cure for this terminal disease.
Terry just visited the ALS clinic in Charlotte to get a second opinion on November 12. The physicians at the ALS clinic have confirmed that Terry most likely does have ALS and is treating him as such. There is no definitive test for this disease, but they are ruling out everything else. He is now on medication that will hopefully slow the progress of the disease, and getting therapies to help him stay as healthy as he can for as long as he can. Terry has an aggressive form of ALS and has already progressed to using a walker to get around.
Terry's last day at work was in September 2013, and he has been on leave since then. His benefits with Camden will end soon and at that time he will have to go on COBRA insurance. As his disease progresses, he will need additional treatment, medication and therapies to keep him as healthy as long as possible. Terry is still a part of our Camden family and we would like for this fundraiser to go towards helping him meet his expenses.
Terry is married and has a daughter and three beautiful grandchildren. Please donate to Terry to help with his expenses. No amount is too small!
