Help Fund My Graduate Thesis Research

The human right to reproductive and sexual health is vital to a healthy and fulfilling life for each and every woman. However, those rights are constantly under attack with very little regard to the real life consequences on women and girls throughout the world. My graduate thesis (as part of my Master's In Global Affairs from NYU) will focus on these rights and compare the work of international actors and state actors to the needs of the women they affect. I will be using Kenya as my case study and will need to do field research as part of my thesis. While in Kenya I will be interviewing two sets of women to ascertain what is important to them and how well they feel the national policies and the international norms are representing them. These two groups will represent the urban woman's perspective as well as women from a traditional Maasai tribe. Reproductive and Sexual Health should reflect the individual, and those individuals, particularly women, need to have a significant seat at "the table" when these policies are developed. It is my hope that my thesis will provide guidance to all countries when developing and implementing reproductive and sexual programs and policies so that women are not only protected but empowered to make decisions that reflect their individual priorities and lives.
