Approximately a year ago we embarked on our dream of becoming parents!! In that time we started fertility treatments had 2 egg retrievals and were able to do 3 embryo transfers with Jacobs mom, Kathy, which were unfortunately unsuccessful. Not without much love and devotion on her part but it was just not meant to be. After approximately $20,000 spent on treatments and transfers thus far it has become time for us to explore a new option.
We were directed to a reproductive lawyer based out if Ithaca, NY. She is also part of an agency called surrogate steps which connects intended parents to gestational carriers! This avenue is different in that they find a surrogate for us that will be compensated for carrying our child! This potential carrier undergoes background checks, psychological evaluations, home screening, and medical screening to be sure she is an appropriate, safe, and viable option! Then a contract would be signed by all parties that essentially is a legal agreement stating the responsibility of the carrier and intended parents throughout the journey!
New York State laws do not allow for compensated surrogacy so therefor this individual will be from another state in the northeast including possibilities like Mass, Connecticut, Maryland, and Pennsylvania (to name a few). We would be in constant communication with this individual and have to opportunity/ option to go to appointments and have as much interaction as we desire! The baby would be born in their state of origin and we would be on-call and alerted when baby is on his/her way!! :)
There would be, what is called a pre-birth order in place that will put Jacob and I on the birth certificate and we bring the baby home from there!!
We are sharing this information with you not only because you are an important part of our lives but also because we need your help! This endeavor is going to cost approximately $50,000+. Jacob and I are planning to borrow what we can from his 401k and I am switching to night shift which is a $5/hr increase in pay! In order to increase my income to pay for this! Unfortunately before we can even begin the process we have to provide $20,000-$30,000 for the surrogate compensation to be placed in an escrow account that will then be given to her on a monthly basis after a heart beat is detected and then throughout the pregnancy!
So...We have come to the realization that we need help! All our family and friends have been so loving and supportive and we are so grateful! We are just so excited to be parents! We have so much love to share with a child and anything you can donate to help us get closer to doing so would be SO appreciated!
