Update 5-29-23
So much has taken place since my last update on here 10 days ago
Leigh-Ann had to go to the ER on Tuesday the 23rd because she was dehydrated, her blood pressure was low, and she was not urinating much. They started fluids and started running tests. On Wednesday the 24th Dr Jones decided to take her into surgery because it looked like she could have been bleeding or had an abscess in her abdomen. She was also severely dehydrated. After the surgery, Dr Jones said that she had a blood clot that became infected. He went in and cleaned her out. They did have to make a small incision. He said nothing else looked damaged or wrong and she did really well. They were planning on keeping her in SICU for the day just to give her 24 hr care and watch her. They said she was septic and had a severe UTI. She was also struggling to maintain a normal blood pressure. They kept her on the vent to give her body a rest. They were trying to wean her from the BP meds but she had an episode and couldn't tolerate it. She had been responding to them that morning but not that evening. At that point it was "touch and go", she was very critical.
May 25th, 8am
Off the vent
She was producing urine, and kidneys were looking better, she was lethargic, but that was expected.
5-26-23 1:30pm
She was totally stable, no longer critical
Labs had improved. We were specifically praying for her kidneys. They weren't in good shape prior to surgery, so the sedation meds were just taking longer to flush out.
She was responding, answering questions, etc, but extremely groggy and fatigued.
She came off the blood pressure meds. She was still getting antibiotics and a diuretic. Labs were good!
This is going to be a long road to recovery for Lou, but I know she has an army of prayer warriors behind her, and she'll overcome in Jesus' name!!!
5-27-23 morning update
Not much had changed. Kidneys were getting better but not where they need to be. She was responsive to visitors but still not fully back to herself yet. They started some tube feeding to get her nourishment for now until they can get her eating on her own. Other than that, she was very stable and just trying to get her back to where she needs to be.
5-28-23 4pm update
The care team decided that if Leigh-Ann was still not "waking up" fully within a few days that they needed to do more tests to rule out anything else that could be going on. They sent her to CT, where they found a skin infection around one of the drain tubes.
To prevent the spread of infection, they took her back into emergency surgery and removed the infected skin. They left the area open and had planned go back in the following day to make sure they removed all the infected skin. They were planning to keep her intubated overnight so that they wouldn't have to put it back in before tomorrow's surgery. She has a large wound. This will require multiple skin grafts in the future. At this point, there is no way to determine the length of her recovery
She was not septic Her heart looked good, kidneys have continued to improve, labs were normal, and blood pressure was good.
The care team has suggested long-term assisted care. It's a 14-28 day program that provides 24-hour care. It includes multiple therapies as well as nutritional requirements! As we all know, she needs all of that!
5-28-23 5pm update
They were able to visit with her after surgery. She was still groggy from the sedation but doing well. They removed the vent. Everything looked good, and all vitals were normal. They weren't sure if she'll even need to go back into surgery again as planned for the 29th. She's had 3 surgeries in 10 days.
5-29-23 morning update
They took her back into surgery. She had been bleeding throughout the night.
5-29-23 2:30pm
She was out of surgery and they didn't find any internal bleeding. Just bleeding from the wound and her blood not wanting to clot. She is stable right now.
5-29-23 pm update
I found out tonight that they've kept her on the ventilator since today's surgery because they plan to take her back into surgery tomorrow to cut out more infected skin. Please pray for her!!!!!
Update 5-19-23
Leigh-Ann had her surgery yesterday. She's doing well! It was a bit of a challenge for the medical team due to the size of the cyst and since it had to be drained again. The doctor wanted to keep her overnight to monitor her and watch her labs. She's awake and shocked that the surgery is behind her. All labs are good and she's doing great If you know Lou, then you know that she's sitting on G waiting on O. As soon as the doctor sees her she'll be discharged. She has a 6-8 week recovery so we're leaving this up until she's back to work.
Thanks to each of you that have prayed for her, sent a love offering, or blessed her in ANY way.
Update 4-14-23
The fluid that was drained from her abdomen was benign She was discharged from the hospital and has started therapy while she recovers at her family's home down South! She will consult with the gynecologist soon to schedule the hysterectomy. She's doing great and greatly appreciates everyone that has prayed for her!
Update 4-7-23 2pm
The cyst has been drained, 7.6 liters. The plan is to get her health and mobility improved to go forward with surgery. No other definitive plans at this point. No discharge plans at this point. No diagnosis from the fluid- that may take several days, but they do not feel like it is malignant.
Leigh-Ann was admitted into the hospital on March 31st. After some tests, they have discovered a 12 inch by 9 inch mass in her abdomen. She is facing surgery to have it removed followed by up to 3 months of recovery and therapy. If you know Lou then you know that she's always the first to lift up, encourage, and bless others in their time of need! I know that most of all she covets your prayers! Also, I know that bills don't stop when you're unable to work, so after communicating with her she's given me permission to create this Gofundme to help her with her monthly expenses as well as her medical expenses. The funds will be deposited directly into her personal checking account. Thank you for praying! Thank you for donating and please share even if you're unable to donate at this time
