Help children in South Africa!

Over the last year I have went through a personal journey to discover what it is I want from my life experience. As I began educating myself about the world today I came to learn that there is a serious global epidemic that is affecting all of life around us, and there is a lot of suffering. I wanted to do what I could to help, because I feel performing even the smallest acts of kindness can make a big difference. Although this time, I am ready to do something bigger. I realized the gratification I get from helping others and the pleasure I receive from travel as I have submerged myself whole-heartedly in the cultures around me. Though I come from a small town in Stillwater, Minnesota, I have always had a dream to see the world. Not for it's extravagancies, but for it's true, real beauty. It has become important for me to live a wholesome, modest life. I feel as human beings it is important to be humbled as our egos can sometimes get in the way of our life decisions. I can say I've welcomed spirituality into my life and this has shown me the oneness amongst us all as a community which made me realize we are all better off if we work together and help each other. I feel it is my time to do something greater and life changing for others, and give back to a community in a unique way. This will not only help others, but will also help me to grow as a person and pave the path for my future. So here I am, fundraising, so I am able to take a journey to South Africa for eight weeks during the summer of 2014 to work in an orphanage. Many of the children I will be working with have lost their parents due to various reasons (crime, disease, violence, drugs, etc) and they have not been properly cared for. I have signed up and been accepted for a program where I will partake in this humanitarian aid project to help! Any type of donation is appreciated to help me get there as I will also be spending the future months working two jobs so I am able to save money. I encourage others to look into programs that allow opportunities like this, but we all know, expenses are unfortunately a large part of the effort of sometimes making your dreams come true.

I see that there are problems in the world that are continued to be ignored every day. I believe the answer is simpler than what we have to come to believe. Desmond Tutu, the archbishop of South Africa, made an impression in my mind when he said "change happens because YOU are concerned." Change will come as the result of millions of small acts combined. From war, poverty, and natural disasters, the best thing that we as humans can offer is care and love. Sure the answer is simple, but knowing man, will this ever happen? Or is it outlandish to believe in a world that values cooperation over competition?

These are questions I hope to answer on my incredible journey to South Africa.
