My name is CJ Poirier. I reside in Clarkston, Michigan and work as a barista. About a year ago, I went onto a dating app called “MeetMe” and met the love of my life, Becca Warren. We began talking to each other and fell head over heels for one another. The only issue was that Becca lives in Corner Brook, located in Newfoundland, Canada.
Over the last few months, we began talking about the idea of myself flying out and meeting face-to-face, but originally it was a joke. However, those conversations become more and more serious, resulting in us making the plans to meet. I dropped out of college to work full-time, pinching paycheck after paycheck in hopes I could scramble enough money together to afford a ticket. However, that would not be enough. Student loans, gas, food, clothes took priority in my budget, leaving me with barely enough to afford a full roundtrip flight. I looked for a second job, but nobody would hire me. I streamed more frequently on my personal YouTube channel in hopes for donations, but there was no luck there. I reopened my graphic design commissions, but nobody would hire me.
In a last-ditch effort, I tweeted at Air Canada’s corporate Twitter, asking for how many retweets it would take for them to give me a fully covered roundtrip flight. They responded with the quote of 530,000, roughly one retweet for each member of Newfoundland’s population and a deadline of Wednesday, May 9th.
We have been fortunate to recieve so much support, but with the goal being so high, it does make us worry of the possibility that we won’t reach it. Thus, per the recommendation of many of our supporters, we have started this GoFundMe to help raise money to cover any costs for a ticket so I can fly out to see Becca. Any money left over will be spent on our trip so we can enjoy as much of our time together.
