God has blessed our lives beyond measure. Meg and I (my name's Rich) were married in 2004, and we added Dax in 2005 to our blended family with Jacob, Jadin, Emmett, and Teigan. We love our boys, and we want more for them. The best way to raise our boys is to demonstrate trusting God by living it out in our own lives.
It is very true that there are many children in the U.S. that need to be adopted. Some may be thinking, "why not one of those children?" In most countries, especially those in the second or third worlds, babies born with Down's Syndrome are immediately placed in orphanages or abandoned. They live in these impersonal places, with little love or even human interaction until they "age out" (between the ages of 5 and 10 in most countries). They are then placed in mental institutions. These young children are exposed and unprotected when placed in these facilities with mentally ill adults and criminals. Eighty percent of these children die within the first year.
We can't help all orphans, but we have the hope to grow our family by adopting a little boy with Down's Syndrome from Lithuania. Meg's maternal grandfather was Lithuanian, and we'd like to redeem his legacy.
Our goal is to move as quickly as God will allow us to, and we can only do this with your help. Additional funds raised over our goal will be devoted to our child's medical expenses. These children often have multiple medical issues that need to be addressed in addition to the challenges associated with Down's Syndrome. For example, our child that we are hoping to be matched with will require care from a pediatric cardiologist, a pediatric nephrologist (kidney doctor), and treatment for anemia.
Thanks for helping us serve God!
