I bought this used cargo bicycle from Portland through eBay several years ago, and I carved pumpkins in a work exchange with CH Robinson to deliver it here so I could take my polio-paralyzed mom riding:)
I modified it so there was room for her feet at the angle she could bend her knees. She loved to feel the sun on her face and the wind in her hair❤
She has since passed, and it has sat idle:( I intend to begin using it again to take other challenged people out into nature. The only drawback is that a wheelchair bound person cannot get out of this bicycle to go shopping or into a restaurant along our route unless I have a 3rd person along who can meet us there with a manual lift and a wheelchair in which to transfer my rider. My current bike only works great for ambulatory older people who can step in and out of it....
So, now I am trying to acquire another Nihola bicycle- One with a wheelchair platform so wheelchair bound riders can remain in their wheelchair to ride. They will be able to roll off the platform when we stop somewhere to run errands or go into a restaurant or an appointment without having to transfer. This bicycle model costs $5,000 before shipping. I could not find a used one on eBay, so must pay full price.
I will donate my time and pedal power, but would really appreciate any amount of money you would be willing to contribute toward the purchase of a Nihola Flex Bicycle w a wheelchair platform. You will be giving physically challenged people a chance to go places they haven't been able to travel. I will be forever grateful for any and all donations toward this goal in honor of my mom.
