LOHADA - 4th Annual Fundraiser

Don protégé
Jambo everyone! ("hello" in Swahili)

We are starting our 4th annual autumn fundraiser for LOHADA, the orphanage and school that we work with and where we sponsor two of our ten God-children. The entire month of October we will be raising funds to help purchase food and medicine for the 206 children now in the two camps in Arusha, Tanzania (East Africa).

LOHADA's founder, Happiness Wambura, too...k in roughly 50 more children earlier in the year due to horrible conditions with drought and famine, especially in the slums near Arusha. Needless to say, she is a bit overwhelmed with the extra mouths to feed, so those of us that support her and the children have felt a bigger push to get the word out and help keep the food bowls full.

So if you are looking for a great cause to donate to this year please consider LOHADA, as every penny that you donate goes directly to food and medicine for the children. Also, your donation is entirely tax deductible, as it is sent to LOHADA via our US-based 501c3 charity called Kesho. You will be mailed a receipt in January for tax purposes.

Even if you are unable to donate this year, thank you for reading about the amazing kids in East Africa that are thriving under Mama Wambura's care!

Thank you so much!

Julie & Nancy Marshall-Justice

CAMP BUNDA
Material support for children and families in need

Started by Happiness Wambura in 1998, LOHADA is a safe haven for at-risk and orphaned children in Tanzania. Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world, and has been hard-hit with the HIV/AIDS virus.

There are two camps in Arusha that house and educate the children. Camp Moses is for children up to age 7 and it houses 60 children. Camp Joshua is for the older children, and it houses 90 and has another 56 that live at home and attend school there. Both camps have basic dorms, classrooms, a kitchen, and a play area.

There are also two rural camps that provide material support to children and their families. Volunteers disperse clothing, food, school supplies, and medical supplies to 120 families at Camp Patmos in Shinyanga and 20 families at Camp Ibriham in Bunda near Lake Victoria. The children in Bunda have been displaced by clan wars in the region, and many are orphans or partial orphans.

We sponsor two of the over 200 children in Mama Wambura's care. Shema was abandoned by his parents when they could no longer care for him in the slums of Arusha. He has also been subjected to drugging and witchcraft over the years by his family. Schola suffered severe physical and emotional abuse by her step-father, and was ultimately banished from their home and forced live on the streets.

LOHADA is supported by volunteers' fees, child sponsorship fees, and donations from supporters. The world-wide economic downturn several years ago has resulted in less money donated, and Mama Wambura is struggling to provide basic necessities for the children.

We greatly appreciate any help you can provide!
