My Auntie (Linda) is suffering from COPD, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. She has been unable to work more than a few hours a day as a dispatcher, and recently she has been struggling even more. Without a stable income, she has been unable to pay for her doctor visits and medicine. She NEEDS these medicines to LIVE. They keep her airways open and her lungs working. Without these medicines she is very weak, often gasping for air even though she's sitting still. She describes the pain as feeling like her lungs are full of heavy concrete, as if her lungs refuse to expand and she has to fight to catch her breath. When she gets really bad it can cause her to panic that she cannot breathe at all. Please, if you have anything to share, I would be so grateful. I cannot provide the support she needs due to my own financial hardships, but I'm still hopeful that we can somehow find a way to make it work out. She needs to see a pulminologist, and has a referral, but needs the copay to be covered. She also has monthly medical costs of about $550, for her medicine and doctor visit. I know money can be tight this time of year, especially with the holidays coming up, but I just can't stand to see her suffering like this. If she can get to the pulmonary doctor and get these medicines I know the impact will be so great for her. She will never "get better," but she CAN feel better and live life outside of her bedroom, she CAN live without the fear of being unable to breathe- we just need your support.
