Dunkin' Mom loses basement apartment in Hurricane
Lucy Burke is an amazing woman, super mom, and supportive friend. Many know Lucy from her 20 years at Dunkin’ Donuts and her continued support of her community. She is always the first one to stop what she is doing and rush to your help and now, we need your help! On September 1, 2021, Hurricane Ida swept in and destroyed our basement apartment. Everything including our kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry and my bedroom have been flood damaged beyond repair.
The water slowly began swelling up through the sink and as the water level outside our house continued to rise, so did the rate at which the water filled the basement. Water covered the cars on the street to a level where only the roof was visible. Water rose up our driveway and destroyed two cars that belonged to the family.
Lucy spent 26 years turning this house into a home and in one night, Hurricane Ida wiped it all away. Due to the health hazards of mold and bacteria, the entire basement needs to be demolished and reconstructed including new walls, flooring, paint, cabinets, kitchen appliances, etc.
Invaluable personal items were lost and can not be replaced, but our hope is to start with what can and we are asking you to HELP US REBUILD! All donations will be used to rebuild the basement apartment and replace the countless items that were lost.
Remember you can support in many ways. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this with others and spreading the word.
Thank you.
