Volunteering in Samoa w/ Youth NonProfit

Donation protected
Hello (or shall I say...Talofa)!

I am excited for my upcoming volunteer experience in Samoa for two weeks in November 21- December 8, 2013. This global experience has been many months in the making and now my plans have finally come together. I will be traveling with a classmate, Priscilla Perez, who shares the same passion for youth development and between the two of us; we will work hard to provide assistance while learning more about the Samoan way of life. I would appreciate any assistance in reaching my financial goal for this experience. This site will be active through Friday, November 15th.

My Volunteer Opportunity in Samoa
I will be volunteering in Samoa for a start up nonprofit organization called the Samoan National Youth Council (SNYC). SNYC has one full-time staff, a full board, and almost 200 youth representatives from a majority of the villages. Based on my skills and work experience, I have been asked to assist in conducting a one-day capacity building training for staff on writing grant proposals. I will also be working to help establish a volunteer program, under their new Youth Employment Network initiative, that will work with youth that dropped out of school and/or unemployed youth to gain experience through apprenticeships and internships for local industries. In Samoa, a staggering 49% of youth drop out of school just before high school so the services SNYC will provide are crucial.

Samoan National Youth Council's Mission: To Empower and Build the Capacity of Youth so that they are better equipped to cope and be ready to face life challenges, advocate responsibly and be effective future leaders of Samoa.
Vision: To Enhance Youth Development for the Social, Economic & Political Stability of Samoa.

Graduation Requirement

I will be receiving my Master of Arts in Social Entrepreneurship and Change from Pepperdine University in the spring of 2014; the major is designed for students to examine the root causes of domestic and/or global problems and develop models for sustainable solutions. As a graduation requirement, we are to complete a minimum two-week global change experiential learning experience. (Exciting right!) The objectives for the immersion experience is to work alongside a nonprofit organization in a developing country that is responding to a social issue that is aligned with the focus area we chose for our entire program (mine is youth development).

Logistics
I assume all related costs associated with the internship including travel, lodging, etc. so the opportunity will not be a burden on the organization where we will provide our services. Your funds will go towards: my airfare $2,000 and the rest will go towards lodging, meals, local transportation, and incidentals.

This is a great opportunity for me and it will provide global experience in the issues that I have been working on for over 15 years. I'm looking forward to working with an organization in its developing stage and contributing to something so important...youth development. For those of you who want to know how my trip goes, I will be creating a daily blog; details to come. I would be grateful to those who find it in their hearts to help me on my journey.

Thank you!
