Family Of 7 Almost Homeless, Help!

After hurricane Irma hit I checked in with my students to see how they were doing. Everyone seemed to be doing well with the exception of one family. It was the day of our return when my pre k student said " I had to sleep on the wet, cold floor, it was hard, I couldn't sleep" that my heart broke into a thousand pieces. I knew I couldn't ignore the situation and after speaking with the family I decided to pay a home visit; it was then that I walked into a nasty landlord yelling at them to collect their rent that was past due. She had no mercy, remorse or compassion that they were sleeping on molded wet rug and had lost just about all their furniture due to flooding from the hurricane. They were two months past due because their father had been in a critical car accident and had lost his workman's comp benefits two moths ago. He's now started working and is on his way but unfortunately their landlord will not work out any payment plan with the family nor will she budge to help their current living condition. We reached out to various organizations but unfortunately no one has been able to assist them with housing. I'm trying to raise ($1,800) to get them up to date on their rent and to work out a deal with the landlord to get their living conditions up to par. Please help this family in need before they wind up with no place to go. Any little bit can go a long way! I greatly appreciate your assistance in this matter! With much gratitude, Jackie Acosta
