Learning and serving has been a passion of mine for most of my life. Recently though I've had a stronger yearning in my heart, to do more, to dig deeper and shake up my comfortable life for something just a bit scary to me. When I opened myself up to this and accepted that I was willing to explore this feeling, an opportunity to learn and serve in India came around. Amazing how that happens, right?
The trip will be a led by the Allegheny Center Alliance Church (ACAC). The team that I am going with will be traveling to Putur, India to serve and support the Good Shepherd Mission (GSM). Work will include helping and serving the mission staff and 180 orphan children, daily, conducting of medical camps for local villagers including visiting a local AIDS/HIV clinic sponsored by GSM, and preparing food and feeding hundreds of villagers
Good Shepherd Mission (GSM) is operated by a gentleman by the name of Henry Bhasker (President and Founder) and his son, Praveen Kumar (Medical Director). This ministry was established in 1979 by Henry and his late wife, Viola, located in the village of Puttur, Andhra Pradesh, India. It started as an orphanage for 9 boys and has developed, into many outreach ministries including:
- Low-cost hospital care (oftentimes free), eye and dental clinics plus a satellite clinic in Kolladam
- Several boy and girl orphanages at both campuses, and a home for the outcast and elderly
- An HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis Centre for full-time care of the most vulnerable in their society
- 12 village churches with pastors/evangelists
I am asking for your financial support for a couple of reasons. One of them being, I need it. In order for me to go on this mission it is a requirement that I raise funds and create awareness for this organization that I am supporting as so many of these organizations rely on volunteers to raise awareness. Secondly, I'd like to give you the opportunity to share. Giving to me or anyone really is an opportunity to open our hearts to those in need and this right here, is an opportunity to make a difference and share what you are so blessed with. So if it is within your means I'd love for you to take part in this journey with me. Be someone that not only is fundamental in allowing me to grow and learn but for you to contribute to a cause that will directly impact so many lives, including your own. No amount is too small or BIG. I am starting at the bottom here so anything will help me out.
