Improv Has Heart

Donation protected
Each year, free improv comedy shows attract thousands across the country, entertaining audiences and spreading laughter and joy to people of all ages. But what if those shows could be used to make a difference? What if by spreading laughter, we could also spread awareness?

Improv Has Heart is organizing a 24 hour improv marathon at the University of Richmond on April 4th to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Whether you're an improviser, an improv enthusiast, or someone who says "isn't improv that thing they do on 'Whose Line is it Anyways,'" your donations and support can go a long way in the fight to end heart disease. All proceeds from the event and this page will go directly to the American Heart Association.

THE ORGANIZATION
With a rate of 1 in 4 deaths every year, heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the United States, leaving no one untouched by its devastating effects. Improv Has Heart is a call to action for improvisers and improv enthusiasts alike. It is a challenge, to use improv to make a difference, to commemorate those who have battled with heart disease, and to strive for a disease-free future by raising funds and awareness for the American Heart Association. By dedicating just one improv show a year to raising funds for the American Heart Association, we as improvisers and improv enthusiasts can make all the difference in the fight against heart disease and by spreading laughter, we can also spread awareness.

THE STORY
When my mother passed away suddenly in December 2014 from complications from heart surgery, I was immobilized, unsure of how to proceed with the rest of my life. As the days passed, I soon realized that the best way to commemorate my mother would not be to mourn in her loss, but to celebrate her life and one of her best gifts; her sense of humor. Improv Has Heart was created to immortalize her comedic spirit, a spirit that managed, in the face of such adversity, to spread laughter and hope to others. All funds from Improv Has Heart's first event, a 24 hour improvathon at the University of Richmond, will be donated to the American Heart Association in the memory of Beegi Clohan (May 16, 1952-December 30, 2014) in the hopes that the laughter we bring to others can help to bring health and well-being to those suffering from heart disease.
