48 Hour Fundraiser for Birds of Prey Foundation

Hi everybody! On Sunday July 23rd, we had a weather phenomenon hit our Denver neighborhood at approximately 4:21pm. Trees and roofs were destroyed in a downward projection of wind versus East to West.

An adolescent hawk (who we named Cooper because he is a Cooper Hawk) was thrown from his nest and injured. We had animal services out here yesterday and they placed him back in a low branch of a tree at Chaffee Park. His sibling (still in the nest) was very distraught and worried, but we assumed they would be okay.

Unfortunately this morning around 9am, I saw dogs going after him on the ground at the park. Luckily for him, I’m very stupid and decided to “rescue” him. A Good Samaritan named Courtney helped me while we both screamed and I got him into a portable dog carrier. (Thanks Courtney!)

I personally think Cooper enjoyed his mini van escort from Denver to Broomfield with the AC on full blast. He was a complete gentleman and didn’t even poop in my car! We arrived at the Birds of Prey Foundation and they instantly began taking care good care of him. The great news is that neither of Cooper’s wings are broken! His left wing is very swollen from his fall and he received NSAIDs via syringe right in front of me!

The hope is that with a week of rest, food, and rehydration, he will be released back into the wild. Here is where YOU fine people come in. The Birds of Prey Foundation relies solely on donations and help from volunteers. I am hoping to blow their socks off because what they do is incredible and important work.

My goal is for us to raise $1,000 in 48 hours and then I’ll give it to them in a lump sum on our behalf. They DO have a donate button on their webpage, but I wanted to create a more “shareable format.” Cooper has his own hospital admission number and I will post updates when they have them! As always, I’ll post the receipt of donation so you know that your money went directly to helping all the amazing birds of prey that need our help.
