Help Kathy Paige Start Over

My name is Kathy Coppens. My dear friend Kathy Felton Paige just endured a devastating hardship. I met her in 1984 at Madison East YMCA when she started volunteering in our Special Needs Department supporting and coaching athletes for Special Olympic competition. We became fast friends and later, roommates. Kathy went on to receive her Bachelors degree in Journalism at UW Madison and later became a police officer on the UW Madison Campus. She worked diligently to make life safer for the UW students on campus. She endured a debilitating neck injury while on duty and had to leave her beloved employment on duty disability. (This is hardly enough to live on). After some time away, Kathy pursued another ambition and went on to graduate this May from USC with a degree in Social Work. She was driving to Madison from California Wednesday when the unthinkable happened. Following is an entry from her Facebook page:~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~"I stopped for my first over night break on the outskirts of Las Vegas. I had just taken my dog and cat into my hotel room and I came back to get my luggage and found my back window smashed in. All of my luggage was taken with ALL of the clothes, jewelry and personal effects I own including my two briefcases with my laptop, iPad, all of my USC graduation honors and keepsakes and all of my paperwork and books for the upcoming policy bootcamp in DC. Fortunately, I had taken my pets, purse and cell phone into the hotel with me so they don't have my drivers license or wallet. When I was a police officer, I had to take many reports of thefts from vehicles. Now I know what it is like to be on the other side of this equation. Oddly, Las Vegas police do not come out to the scene for a vehicle break-in and they will have a desk officer call me in 7 to 10 days. One thing I'm sure about. These were desperate people and have much worse lives than me. Sadly, my car insurance doesn't cover my belongings and my deductible is $500.00 for the $279 window repair! I've been living minimally for the last three years of graduate school, but no clothes or bathroom gear is pushing it!"~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I would like to help Kathy get her feet back on the ground. Any contribution toward a replacement laptop, shoes, toiletries, essentials, clothes, etc. would be most helpful. Anything you are able contribute will help. Times are hard for all of us. Kathy just seems to have had more than her share. Thank you for your consideration.
